The world’s first ‘born global’ accreditation system for marketers set to raise Global Standards in Marketing Practice | ||
Global Marketing Network has started the roll out of its Global Professional Membership Structure. Based in the UK, GMN bills its new accreditation system for the marketing community as the world’s first ‘born global’ professional membership structure. Its development follows worldwide consultation with GMN’s Global Faculty, Global and Country Advisory Councils and other thought-leaders from the world of marketing and business. Applications for professional membership of Global Marketing Network will be accepted online from 1st June 2010. In countries where GMN has already established a national operational structure such as Ghana, Malaysia, Nigeria and Sri Lanka, members will soon have access to workshops, events and seminars organised locally through GMN-approved Professional Development Centres. These will provide local marketing and business professionals with the ability to engage with GMN‘s Global Faculty of acclaimed marketing and business experts both online and face-to-face. In the UK, marketers will access membership through the GMN website It is a professional membership development structure that integrates neatly with GMN`s recently launched MSc in Global Marketing Practice awarded by Anglia Ruskin University. All members will have full access to an online members’ area. In addition, they will have access to local and international events put on by GMN operations around the world. At the launch, which took place in Sri Lanka in the presence of His Excellency the British High Commissioner Dr Peter Hayes, GMN Chief Executive Darrell Kofkin said: “Feedback from the marketing profession confirmed that, to really take our profession forwards, and also to gain the respect of other professions as the world economy emerges from recession, there is a need for a Global Professional Membership Structure managed professionally, to high and demanding standards, consistently worldwide, fairly and transparently, in the interests of marketers - and their employers - everywhere.” Kofkin continued: “In collaboration with the marketing profession we have developed a Global Membership Structure which enables any marketing professionals anywhere in the world to be assessed on their experience, academic achievements and competency. To ensure maximum accessibility and participation, GMN is also applying its established and acclaimed global tiered ‘fair pricing’ policy to membership at every level of membership across the world.” The GMN Global Professional Membership Structure both recognises and rewards the individual aspirations of marketing professionals around the world and also provides and encourages visible progression within the marketing profession. The progressive membership structure confers status on individuals and the right to use GMN designatory letters and titles on individuals upon their election as Professional Level members. In return, GMN members will be able to demonstrate tangible proof of their commitment to their ongoing professional development, proving to current and indeed potential employers that they are serious about marketing, their career, and about maintaining and indeed updating and upgrading their knowledge and skills. Said GMN Global Honorary President, Dr Jagdish Sheth: “The world is going through unprecedented change. If the marketing profession really is going to grasp this ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ to take centre-stage in business then the profession must first be seen to be putting its own house in order. It is in the interests of every marketer serious about their career, and every employer and every organisation serious about supporting the development of marketing professionals, that we are seen to do so. Only then, we believe, will our profession be taken as seriously worldwide as other management professions in the boardroom.” The GMN Global Advisory Council confirmed that it would now be working tirelessly to encourage marketing professionals to apply for GMN Professional Membership at the earliest opportunity, not only to improve their own knowledge and capabilities but also to further the interests of the entire marketing profession.
